Just seen a news about the Roost Social app which simulates exchange with messages sent via birds-post to significant extent. Delivery time calculated quite realistically, and it surely have a very special vibe, as you can see how your birds fly with messages and back.
Sadly, this is again a mobile app, not something that is desktop/laptop friendly. But it is sorta understandable, as in its goal to make delivery time as realistic as possible, authors mistakenly decided they need to rely on location services from mobile platforms, instead of give chance for people to set the location ourselves.
This app also is example when at least it is possible understand why location data is being collected by an app.
The good part is that it shows how people actually tired of instant messaging, and the idea of local-first blogging and non-instant email-like messaging app can work for some people. Especially if it does not involve collection of location data.
