Got permanent ban on Facebook

Man happily taking selfie over grim orange fog

That account has been created basically due to a weird problem – a medical institution I was looking for a way to book an appointment claimed they use FB messenger.

But later I found other place to get necessary assistance.

So I decided to keep account, and used it to follow local pro-EU opposition news outlets, public figures, and few local accounts writing about magic.

I tried to use professional mode on account just to see what it is about and than switched it off.

Eventually I marked anything as friends-only there.

I wrote few civil comments to some news articles.

At some moment one of my comment got😡 (angry) reaction.

I guess this is somehow related to the fact that Facebook soon demanded a video-selfie proof that I am not a robot.

And I was like “ok, facebook” (a-la “ok, boomer”) at first. But at another day I tried to do it from my phone, as I don’t have camera at my PC. And few hours later it ended up with reply from facebook that I my appeal declined and permanently banned and I can’t appeal again anymore.

I find this whole situation infuriating.

I even thought to start a campaign to promote Mastodon & Fediverse here in Georgia country, as almost nobody knows about Fediverse here.

But considering worsening political climate via the increasingly repressive policies of pro-Kremlin government by “Georgian Dream” and its founder, a billionaire Ivanishvili, I guess, soon people here may need more protected/private ways of communication than that, which can be prepared for state actor threats like servers seizure or admins being arrested.

As 95% people here in Georgia country keep using Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and some – Threads, even after few cases of arrests and fines for criticism and being dissent in comments on Facebook, with its “mandatory real name policy”, I wonder what else should happen to make sure people would leave Meta products en masse here.
